One Dead Tree and Two Broken Bluestone Slabs.
On Good Friday I took the day off and woke to this loud sound right outside my window. I looked out and saw a guy zooming back and forth on a Cat Skid Steer on our bluestone sidewalk. Then he yanked out the healthy, little tree that my former tenant had planted and zoomed back and forth some more, even after I ran out to tell them to get off the sidewalk because it would break. Well the sidewalk is now broken along two of the slabs and the newly planted tree appears to be fully dead. I’ve found out how to file for reimbursement for the damage from the City but I’m wondering if anyone has any recommendations for contractors who can replace the damaged slabs? I worked with concrete guys to replace the sidewalk a couple of years but none of the firms I contacted seemed very adept with the stone work. It seems a shame that something that has been around for 130 years was ruined in 10 minutes and I’d like to properly replace the stone. Thanks in advance for your help.

Yeah, I’m not too confident about having the City pay, I just have the forms. When a leaky fire hydrant followed by a pallet of melons damaged another square in November a few years ago I couldn’t find anyone to do the work within the allocated time, which used to be 60 days. We also lost quite a bit of our yard due to the onrush of water. Anyone have any idea how much this might cost? We have a pretty high deductible on our insurance so they’re not too helpful for smallish problems, which this may well be.

do you have a picture? before, during and after? you’ll have a hard time collecting from the city. you’re best bet might be going through your homeowners insurance and letting them battle it out with the city contractor/city. althought they may not accept this type of claim it is worth a shot. if you go that route get an adjuster.

Try J. Mos Brownstone Authority (advertises here) Not cheap, but if you’re getting the city to reimburse might as well pay to get it done right.
