There is a tree pit with just a stump on my block, that is a serious dog shit magnet. Seems like people clean up a bit better if there’s an actual tree in a tree pit. How do I go about getting the city to dig up the stump (it’s pretty big; takes up most of the pit) and plant a tree? Any other suggestions for getting people to clean up after their dogs in this spot?

The tree in front of my house was struck by a lightning and burnt to the ground a few years ago. I called 311 and sent an online request via the million tree program six months ago. I received an email two months after saying that a planting team would be sent out to inspect the site. Late January a received another email that my request had been approved. Mid-March someone came and traced with white paint the future tree pit and yellow paint arrows my gas pipe. It just takes time I guess.

This morning I saw a crew with a huge grinder removing the charred stump. I can’t wait to see what kind of tree I’ll get. There are only a handful of species approved by the city because of the longhorn Asian beetle issue. I hope I’d get an English plane tree or a linden tree. That would definitely remind me of my home country where these two are quite prevalent.
