Where to Turn for New Skylights?

We want to replace our 3 skylights, including making 2 of them open-able. Any ideas on who can fabricate/install? I hear roofing people do this, but our roof is about 4 years old and seems in good shape, so we do not want to replace the whole roof – which is what we will hear if we hire roofing companies, I imagine. Where to turn? Thx

Thanks – unfortunately, roof was done under previous owner (now deceased) and we didn’t get the name of who did it. Oh well – we’ll start calling roofers.

If your roof is only four years old; I assume it still has a warranty on it? I would go back to the same roofer and have them do the skylights so that they can amend the warranty at the same time. But they obviously know your roof, they know how many layers etc you have on it. The bottom line is; you always want a roofer to do this kind of work..

I had skylights installed by a roofer without the entire roof being done. And one of them required cutting roof joists and reframing the roof because I wanted the mother of all skylights over the stairwell and hall. I have a total of 3 sl on the main roof and 2 in a 2 story addition. I’ve had varying issues with all (Velex, coop wire, another name brand that I forget) except that really big one which is brand X and has never been a problem. A competent roofer will flash it properly and that’s the biggest issue with installation.

I doubt that, absent a serious problem [which you’d probably know about anyway], any reputable roofer would recommend replacing a four year old roof.

It depends on what kind of skylight you want – new, bubble-style or old, chicken-coop. My roofer had to have a specialty glass place fabricate a chicken coop which roofer installed while doing other work. I’d think any good handyman could install bubbles in existing space.
