Roof work

We just got part of our roof redone, and there’s already water pooling in various places. Is this normal? The roofer says it was more sloped to the center than expected, and he did the best he could to relevel without opening it up and rebuilding it. Says it still should last 10-15 years as redone. (The guys who did the job *seemed+ rigorous to me, but what do I know?)
All I see are these results. Is this going to cause me problems? Is there something I should be asking the roofer to fix about their fix? [IMG_0778](//muut.com/u/brownstoner/s2/:brownstoner:ceIT:img_0778.jpg.jpg)

There are roof coatings made for ponding issues. Also there are products such as this:

It’s not ideal. Ideally water will not pool on the roof, but that’s rarely the case, and most flat roofs end up with this feature.

@no-permitz: in no way am i suggesting that the OP has to do something like what i am about to say, but what you are saying is not entirely true. roofers can lay down tapered insulation on a flat roof to give it pitch. there are probably other ways. i am not a roofer but when i built my shed out back i worried i had not pitched the roof enough and i stepped the top of the slope up even further by adding an additional two laters of membrane at the top, one additional caourse in the middle, and no additional course at the lowest part of the slope.

OP should check his roof spring and fall and pay careful attention to that silver paint on there. Look at the color of the silver paint in areas where you think water puddles; if it is really puddling (i am not sure you have full on puddling on your roof, maybe one or two areas), in time it will leave a little discoloration or a ring of stuff from the trees (pollen and like) as the water evaparates and retreats. and let me correct myself: check the roof in the spring, end of summer, and fall. i added end of summer because last year i went up on my roof in the fall. I noticed that the silver paint had really worn in spots, showing membrane. that silver paint can only be applied in like 50 degrees and up and ( i think they state “50 and rising” on the directions; perhaps it takes time to dry and if there are no more warm days, it will stay soft) i was right at that 50 degrees (and falling) and only able to put some on the worn black patches to hold it over until spring

i am not a roofer and i doubt the others posting here are as well, so it won’t hurt to read a little. just make sure that what you read applies to the materials you have on that roof. (and if you just had that roof done, you should have a bill of materials not only listed by what it is but by who it is made by; when i had roofs done on a group of buildings when i was just out of college, my bosses had me take the labling from all the product they were using; this is your right to do; when you do this for a living it is called CYA – covering your …)

It sounds like you paid for another layer, and that’s what you got. You cant really level a roof out without tearing it all off, sistering the joists, and starting new.

Looks good to me considering your roof looks it was built pretty flat in the first place, the roofer is correct in saying he’d have to open it up and rebuild to get it perfect. And if he raised that area too much, you’d just get pooling somewhere else.

mine has a little puddle and as long as i keep it painted i do not worry. we are not talking about a lot of water, maybe 1/8″ at most in a circle about 6′ in diameter. it dries off pretty fast when the sun comes out.

let us see what others say as this is a good quesiton.
