Searching for an Iron Newel Post Finial for my Stoop

One of the 2 newel post finials on my stoop has been missing for 20 years. The remaining finial is very large and decorative and I haven’t been able to find one to match. I recently submitted a permit request to LPC to remove the existing finial and replace both with a simpler design. LPC rejected this request even though the guidelines say replacements don’t have to be an exact match. Anyone know how to go about finding a match or another approach for dealing with LPC?

Not sure what they look like, but did you try poking around the salvage yard under the Smith/9th St. subway stop? Its hit or miss, and mostly they have the more common newels there.

Alternately, since you already have one newel, you could try a place that will recreate a new one:
