How much $$$ does tiling a basement floor cost??

Approximately, how much does it cost have a decent contractor install basic ceramic floor tiling in a basement (e.g. 1500sqft) in Brooklyn including materials? I’ve heard $40 / sqft??

A layer of shingle and membrane to stop the moisture from the soil underneath rising into you new “sealed” floor. If you have a concrete base it is porous, you probably do not notice the moisture because your boiler etc is condensing the moisture from the soil underneath as it rises, but if you seal it… it will not be long before you notice it. Even if your house sits on a high well drained slope.

Sorry, but what exactly is a ‘damp course’? And what about if I were to just apply Seal-Krete paint instead of tiles?

$40 +/- is a good start.
It all depends on the current state of the current floor, the price of the chosen tile and of course the experience of the installer.
Before investing in a basement floor be sure to check if you have a damp course underneath it, most do not. In which case in a few years your tile could all start coming loose and or having damp coming up the walls etc. To install a damp course add on another $30-40 per sq ft.
