combining light switches

I think this a fairly simple concept, but I have not been able to find any references on how to do this.

In short, I have two light switches on different circuits ~4 feet from each other, controlling separate lights. I want to blank out one of the light switches, and combine control of that switch to the other switch. Then end result being one switch controlling two lights. How does one accomplish that? So far I’ve only seen smarthome type solutions that require WIFI or a hub of some kind. But I seem to recall solutions that use RF signals to accomplish the same thing.

Way too complicated answers here. Don’t blank out the old switch. Install a Lutron Maestro or Caseta multi-location dimmer. That way, the light can still be controlled at the old location if you wish, or never used if you do not, and you won’t have an eye-sore blank on the wall. Buy a Lutron Pico remote, a wall mount kit, and a double switch plate. Install the Pico into the double switch plate, and replace the plate on the switch you want to keep with the double switch. Voila. You now have a fully functional, dimmable, traditional double switch right were you want it. I have done this a half dozen times. The Pico battery lasts for 10 years. The whole think will cost you $100 and take 20 minutes.

Run or snake a 2 conductor wire from the switch you want to eliminate to the switch you want to keep and depending on the wiring configuration it is quite simple to switch it over. Use the old switch box as a splice / junction box and install a blank cover over it.

a more sensible solution would to change the junction so that both lights are on the same circuit…you are making things way too complicated by trying to do this through an internet interface

the new switch would control a single pole double throw (spdt) relay that would control both circuits …this is electronics 101… the problem is that you cant fit a relay in a switch box so you have to open up the wall to make it work
