Adding Historic Elements

I am renovating a recently purchased townhouse in bedstuy and wanted to add some elements that aren’t present. The parlor floor has a wooden fireplace towards the back but none in the front. I was thinking of adding a marble one. I also wanted to add a classic entry way bench/coat rack (any thoughts on finding this?)

I wanted to know if any mixed fireplaces like this ?

Our house seemed to have both marble and wood mantles originally. The marble one was on the parlor floor but the other 4 fireplaces had very simple wood mantles (under about 6 layers of drywall.) The one remaining fireplace on the bottom floor in the back of the house was gigantic and probably had a wood stove at some point. I imagine it was somewhat common to have mixed fireplace mantles, especially in non-brownstones (we have a 1855 wood-frame.)

I bought an antique mantel from Demolition Depot and a local guy Manny LaSalle installed it and the hearth – he saved the day retro-fitting mantel and figuring out\ fixing firebox for gas fireplace (another local co. open up fireplace and re-lined flu, but apparently Manny can do all that, too. He also sells mantels. Wished I had used him for complete job.) It’s a big, messy job but think it’s a valuable reno addition. Manny is at 917 292 1825

In the early ’70s one of my neighbors “liberated” a marble mantel from a house that was being demolished in Bed-Stuy. It looked fine in his 1899 house, even though the others were wood and a much later style.
