Finding Brooklyn Brownstones on Your Own

Hi All, So, each day I leave work and drive up and down the streets of the areas I am looking to buy for buildings with signs and also those that are boarded up.  This may be a ridiculous question but does anyone have any experience finding a property on their own by way of pounding the pavement and searching online based on address?  Is looking at boarded up buildings a waste of time or are there tips to finding out if these properties are available to purchase? Many thanks for your insights!

We find a lot of commercial rental spots by walking around and collecting addresses.  We end up calling any place that looks like it would be big enough.  We get a lot of rejections but always find a place. For finindg a house, you should find a location you’re fond of and hang out and talk to people, there’s always someone who’s thinging of selling but hasn’t put their place on the market..

walk.  I am not sure if that is what you have to do, but someone told me to walk when we were looking for our house – and I did a lot of walking and I did find one or two houses we might have bought by walking.   That said, I am actaully a contractor and find myself in many areas of this city where I would not otherwise stop and talk to the folks on the street and when i do, by virtue of where I am parked, I hear a lot of stories and learn a lot about the real estate.  Steve
