I pay my rent but LL pushes me out

I am a tenant, renting an apartment in a two-family private house for several months without a formal lease. Paying my rent on time. However, as a result of a dispute over utility overuse my landlord gave me a two-months notice and wants me to move out.  I like the place and don’t want to leave. What are my rights?

I agree with the above posters.  And, I can’t help but ask you to re-examine your perspective.  The landlord lives in the home, too.  You moved in with no formalities.  Now, for whatever reason (or, for no reason at all), the landlord wants you to move out.  I am a little surprised that you want to know what rights you have to *keep living in someone’s home who doesn’t want you there anymore.* I do, however, wish you luck.

Sorry to say…..but your out of luck without a lease! Your best bet is a mutual agreement now. It’s NYC, a lease is necessary.

30 days is al he needs to give you.  No reason needs to be specified as to why.  Next time, get a lease it will protect you.

«What are my rights?» None, if you don’t have a lease.  Talk to your landlord again, maybe you can sort things out.
