Looking to Move Family to Bed-Stuy

We are considering purchasing a Brownstone in the Bed-Stuy area of MacDonough (btwn Ralph and Patchen).  Would appreciate any input regarding this area and feelings on the neighborhood.  It is a beautiful street and from what I have seen on my limited visits are homes well cared for and a nice neighborhood vibe.  Any comments appreciated.

We moved from Park Slope 14 months ago and we have absolutely no regrets.  The neighbours are the friendliest I’ve ever met in all my travels and I’m an Aussie who lived in London for 4 years before moving to NYC in 2003\.  I live on Macon at Stuyvesant.  I feel safe and a part of a great community.  Don’t hesitate to make the move, you won’t regret it.

nice houses over there, couple of decent grocery stores on nearby broadway, the rite aid just went 24 hours, which i think is a good sign. and saratoga park is a really nice little park you don’t hear much about.

We live on MacDonough between Ralph and Howard for six years and have been very happy with the neighborhood.  There is a real neighborly and family feeling to the area.  It’s the type of neighbohood where people say ‘hello” when you walk down the street.

The area your moving to is what we call Stuyvesant East.  The homes are very lovely in this area.  Amzi and Henry Hill designed most of the houses on your block in the late 1880s/90s.  This is the area of Bedford Stuyvesant is the sleeper area of Brooklyn that I am sure will take off very soon.  I think your making a very wise choice in moving to that area of the neighborhood. If you have young children, you may want to research schools.  That’s always a priority for families moving to any neighborhood.
