Does anyone know of any Los Angeles area resources similar to Brownstoner Forum

My partner’s buying a home in Pasadena, CA and I’m looking for info about local tradesmen,
suppliers, how to’s, real estate related resources etc. Also want to learn about reno issues that
are unique to the area,

Google searches haven’t yielded anything remotely similar to this forum…(which btw is
awesome).  Any info would be appreciated. Thx.

I don’t know if there’s anything exactly like Brownstoner there but you could start by inquiring at the Gamble House, the local historical society, and read “Bungalow Kitchens” by Jane Powell (her other books are excellent too). She focuses on West Coast houses — mostly Edwardian, 20s, and 30s. She lists resources in the back. The Oakland Historic Society (which she used to be president of) also has a lot of info (I realize it’s eight hours up the coast). Other online resources include myoldhouseonline and gardenweb forums. I presume this house is early 20th century, but if it’s a midcentury ranch house, there are tons of resources for those too, from Save the Pink Bathroom to Eichler clubs, etc. The reno issues specific to the area are: Earthquake proofing your foundation and battling termites and ants. Also, patio living is big. Have fun!
