Please recommend a good budget guy to snake the main drain in my house
Once at work we had a recurring problem with a series of drains three stories below. The building engineers snaked many time but could not clear the drain with much success. We laughed as an outside contractor set up the same snake. They cleared everything and this was over a year ago. They are on contact. Now and they said the secret was the head of the snake had sharp teeth and gets replace often. The dull head was slapping crud instead of cutting it and flushing.

I live out in Brooklyn and can have been having problems with the main trap. I had it snaked six months ago for roots but the problem seems to be persisting and the toilet overflowed today. I guess I have to have the main drain snaked yet again. This is getting expensive. Any budget recommendations would be appreciated.

I used Python before and highly recommend them – (718) 605-0930\. If you really want a budget recommendation you can try the “$49.95 any sewer or drain” guys 718-845-4995\. Python also recommended in another forum post re: a similar issue: http://forum.brownstoner.com/question/r3vtqIyyAuU=/best-methodbest-company-to-remove-tree-root-from-sewer-pipes

I used these guys last summer and it was the best price I found for “SEWER LINE OR DRAIN PIPE STOPPAGE UNCLOGGED” service…basically $50 + tax. http://www.4999sewer.com Other plumbers priced over the phone in the $200 – $300 range. The $49.99 guys are legit – quirky name but it’s on point! Best, Allan S.

You might find that the pipe is collapsing.

If it keeps happening, you might want to get a plumber to TV your line to find out what is really going on. A few hundred dollars, but probably worth doing if it fails again.

I use Python a lot. They do jetting, camera work, all kinds of stuff using all the right equipment.
The guys clearing toilets for fifty bucks are not in the same category of professionals.

I used Sessa for my two basement drains- leading from backyard- and he did the job great. Not cheap, but he was a knowledgable and helpful guy who knew what he was doing.

I’ve used the “any sewer or drain – 49.99” guys in the past with very good results BUT if you have a recurring problem, then snaiking isn’t the solution. In my case snaking top to bottom worked simply because a> it was likely decades since the system was cleaned out and b> the house had been vacant for a few years, and all of the traps had debris/roach nest/sediment buildup. The snaking plus a bottle of drano in each was enough to cure the problem and it’s been fine for going on 3 years now. Had that step not resolved the issue, or i had problems again in 6 months, i would definitely get someone with a camera in those pipes to see what’s happening. roots, a crushed section, a more serious blockage, etc. There isn’t a lot that can go wrong, but the more serious stuff does require more attention than just a snaking. short answer: recurring problem = needs more than a snake. You’ll need to get to the cause of them problem instead of the temporary treatment.

Ditto for Python. They are very good for exactly what you need.
