Leveling & Stabilizing Cast Iron Radiators
Last winter we purchased 2 new Governale radiators. The plumbers installed them with nickels (as in coins) as a means to level them. Throughout the winter, coins would pop out, so eventually we stuck in some ugly pieces of 2 x 4 we had around. This looks terrible and feels unstable. The larger radiator, in fact, almost toppled over once when I was trying to level it. Any thoughts on a more permanent and attractive way to mount and level these? I looked around for leveling feet– no luck. I could make something? Should these radiators be attached to the floor? By the way, our floors slope a lot and also change throughout the season- so the solution needs to be adjustable. Something like our fridge’s feet would be ideal but not sure how to adapt this to our scenario. Thanks!

Go to the Vermont Country Store website where they sell wooden bed risers — basically small wood blocks each with an indentation to rest a bed leg in. Maybe those would work?

I don’t understand how you went from nickels to 2×4’s. It takes a lot of nickels to reach a 2″ height. Did you lift it higher? Is it still level? I’m intrigued. You can stain some nice wood the same color as the floor or cut something down to sit just under each leg…like the size of a nickel. Paint it radiator color.

Maybe try quarters instead of nickels?
