Is using PVC pipe for waste now legal in NYC?

Someone menitoned to me that since June 2010, it is now legal to use PVC pipes in a single family houses in NYC (Brooklyn) as long as it is used for the waste line.

Is this really true?

agree it is very noisy and not as a significant cost savings as one might expect.  I personally would only use cast iron (black pipe).

but the op only asked if it was legal.

I hope you do not mind the listening to the waste travel down the pipe.  For that reason alone, I would not do it.

I remember reading somewhere that PVC pipe shouldn’t be used in any place that is not accessible. The reason for this is that the connections become loose over time and leak. This especially true if there are vibrations

Yes. I have to get this straight because it kept changing for a while there, but it definitely *at least* includes one and two family residential buildings 3 stories in height. It might’ve changed to include 5 stories and 3 families.
