Adding a shower

Yes, you’re right about all of that. When changing the size of a room (two in this case because one would assume it affects the adjacent space as well) you need to file. If you were just to add a fixture to an existing space, you might get away with a very simple LAA application in which the plumber files a forms and pulls his/her own permit without an architect’s involvement. You’d submit drawings and forms to the DOB. You might be able to have the architect to a professional certification and avoid the plan review process, thereby getting DOB approval in a day.

I wish to add a shower to a existing half bath in a two family house. The bathroom size would increase to accommodate the shower. What would I need in terms of DOB approval. Architect plans?, alteration forms, approval process, any other feedback or suggestions would be appreciated, thanks

By some coincidence, the 4th bathroom in the Houzz article is one I built. At first I told Houzz I wanted no part of an article featuring my work as a “mistake,” but they reassured me my work is an example of how to avoid a mistake. About 19,000 people have added this photo to their “idea books” so far. Feel free to get in touch through my website greenmountain.nyc
