Permits after the work is done?

hi all, we did some waterproofing work in the rear of our house. it involved excavation, a retaining wall, etc. the contractor did not say we needed permits, but apparently someone made a complaint, and we are looking at possible violations. we found a slip at our doorstep from a dob inspector who wants us to call and schedule an inspection. what are our rights? what are the likely outcomes? the work is done, presumably to code. thanks.

I would think that if he really did go into the back and see, he would of just wrote you a violation on the spot. But since the work is already done, who’s to say when it was done etc etc. Any thing posted on a door can easily be swept off by the wind. If anything, they would send you a certified letter. I would just ignore it.

if you got permits in the future and needed dob inspections for other work, they won’t look at anything else unless it somehow is related. it doesn’t sound like you have a problem. don’t let anyone in.

hey-i went right there when i got the ls4 notice. i will need permits for further work on the inside, so eventually, they’ll see. just wondering what typically happens after the work is done, assuming it’s to code. ugh. thanks.

thanks of the perspective. the day the slip was in my door, the gate to my back was slightly open, as if the inspector just went around uninvited. can’t be sure, but i’m guessing that’s what happened.

That’s what i call a flytrap. Ignore it, They’ll try 3 times to get in. When they don’t, they close the case.
