Permit filing status

Hello Does anyone know wether I can check online on the status of my permit filing with DOB. I suspect the expeditor is delaying and want to check. Thank you!

It finally appeared on the DOB site, with file date as of 2 days ago. So then actual “file date” is when the docs were entered into the system, not when they were submitted? Anyone know this? Apologies if too many questions, I am trying to understand the process. Thanks.

Thank you for explaining this to me. I didn’t expect to see approved permits, I wanted to see “permit pending” or “under review” or some such thing to be certain that the expeditor filed when he said he did. But as Eman134 explain, it takes a few weeks to show up in the system under “filed/pending/whatever”. It’s now almost 3 weeks and I was just hoping to see that it’s filed. Thanks again.

Hi katdov – You may be confusing the DOB approval and the DOB permitting processes. First you file to get the project approved – this can take a long time, and as eman134 says, it may take a few weeks to show up in DOB’s online system. Once everything’s been received, a plan examiner will review the application, and issue a list of objections. At that point your expediter and architect work with the examiner to clear these up. Once all objections are cleared, the project is approved. Only then can you submit the permit application. Permit applications tend to be processed in days, not weeks/months. To see if you expediter has submitted the application for approval, go to DOB’s website, enter your address, and then click on “Jobs/Filings” at the bottom. This will show every filing ever submitted for your building. These are organized by date, and each listing includes the architect or engineer who is the applicant. If your filing isn’t on the list, either the DOB hasn’t processed the paperwork yet, or it hasn’t been submitted yet. If your filing is listed, you can click on it, and then click on ‘forms received’ to see an itemized list of what was submitted. give it 3 weeks from when your expediter says that he entered it…it should show up as prefiled by that point

Hello HelloBrooklyn12345 – thank you for that. I’ve actually been to that site and looked up my building and then the link to “permits in process/issued” and it shows no open permits or pending permits. I need to verify that my expeditor actually filed for permits. If he had, would they be under “permits in process” or will they only show up once opened? Thanks!
