does removing a kitchen require change in c of o

in a 1920 house, that has a 2 family c of o, if we remove the kitchen on top floor and replace with a laundry room, does that mean that we must change to a one family c of o? we would prefer to keep the two family c of o. changing the c of o is  complex and expensive and we want to keep the 2 family c of o.

If you are living there, don’t change c/o.  You are going to keep the infrastructure for a kitchen anyway – – gas line, drain, water etc – so you, or someone else, can easily put the kitchen back down the road.

Changing the C’of O from two to one is probably the easiest and least involved changes. Adding units triggers all sorts of “imperial entanglement” Nevertheless, unless you need to perform other alterations that mean you have to submit to DOB, I would recommend not doing what you propose.Who is to say that your vision of a kitchen doesn’t include laundry facilities? You may presently plan to stay in your home for 50 years, but you never know. To go through the expense and aggravation of making a change that might be un-useful to a prospective future buyer, why do it. The licensed plumber would have to file at a minimum to cap the waste lines no longer needed. He might self-certify but sometimes it;s easier to just call for an inspection. They don’t show…you pass. You are allowed to change cabinetry and appliances without a permit so why not just design what you want while keeping the minimum requirements for a kitchen? Mini fridge. No problem. Galley range, ditto. Laundry sink is a sink. Your piece of mind will be much better if you steer clear of the DOB.
