Convert window to sidelight

I have a patio door with an (attached) side window. It’s time to replace the patio door and would like to convert the side window to a sidelight so more light comes in to the kitchen. The egress does not change as I will have one door to patio and there will be nothing structural as I will leave the present lintel above the door and window. In other words I am not widening the opening. Do I need a permit? If yes, what kind of permit do I need? Will ALT-3 be enough? Thanks

I am not an architect and I only know what I have read. it sounds to me like you are removing a few bricks. technically, I bet you have to file this. if it were my house, I might try to sneak it in. you do mention that you are not touching the lintel. besides, if it is in the back, there is a good chance the city does not have a pic of it. I do not want to tell someone to do something wrong though. Steve

The opening will change at the bottom since I amr eplacing a window with a sidelight that extends to the floor. I have to take the bricks below the window part. Now it looks like this II I and will become like this II II The max width brick to brick will remain the same.

if you are not changing the opening – the size of the brick-to-brick, you do not need a permit. Steve
