Studio Apartment

Most painters can repair a crack or two, but if you need to skim coat entire rooms or ceilings, you need a plaster expert. I am not allowed to make recommendations because I work for Brownstoner. Search the Forum for recommendations for plaster experts or master plasterers. Costs can vary — we did approximately three rooms plus assorted other bits but no ceilings, took about a week, cost $2,200 and the work was excellent. I’ve also heard of paying $2,000 for major repairs — complete replacement — to a ceiling in a large room. They should cover the walls with a thin coat of pink Plaster-Weld, then attach fiberglass mesh on all surfaces (except moldings), then do three thin layers of plaster. This is how the professionals do it. The fiberglass mesh prevents the cracks from returning.

Please recommend a painter who knows skim coating. How much does this work cost approximately? The apartment is a studio. I’m buying my own paint.
