Hi all, Wanted to refer our plasterer who did all four floors of our brownstone. He recreated moldings and everyone thinks that what he did is original…our current kitchen has a curved ceiling and the same molding as in our front parlor…this was built from exposed beams as we had to rip the entire ceiling out so he created molds from the original molding to make it seamless. He also paints, skim coats, etc. Happy to walk anyone considering hiring him through the work he’s done in our Bed Stuy townhouse. He’s also reasonable. Post your email and I will respond. Thank you so much for this recommendation. Does Hugo own scaffolding (for inside, I mean), and does he have any helpers? Also, was there a fair amount of sanding and plaster dust? Is he fairly neat and does he clean up every day? How is his painting? Many thanks!

Hi Cate, His painting is wonderful since he’s an absolute perfectionist and he works with his younger brother, James, who he trained so his work is identical to Hugo’s, which is very old-world with respect to the plastering. Believe he has one additional person but I do not have personal experience with the third helper. Ironically, we have James here today doing some work since we installed wood panels in one of our rooms downstairs which we are turning into a study…he’s concealing the screws on the panels, installing base moulding and then painting the entire room. I cannot say whether or not he has scaffolding because he did our parlor floor ceiling molding on a ladder. He always leaves work areas broom-swept at the end of each work day and we’ve worked with him so long now, that we are very comfortable leaving him unattended in our house. While I’ve got you, would you know where I can go to match a Farrow & Ball paint color to a Benjamin Moore color? F&B is so expensive and that’s what is on the panels…they are reclaimed. Thank you so much, appreciate it! You can go to any Janovic store to have F&B paint colors made up in a BM base. (Not sure about the Queens one, which is to the trade, but you could call and ask.) Are you trying to match the color exactly, so you only have to paint part of the panel or are you painting over the whole thing? If you bring in a panel (or a chip of the paint from it) hopefully the color match will be identical, but I am not sure the finishes are exactly the same.
