wallpaper hanger

Having a lot of trouble finding someone who hangs wallpaper.  Have consulted various handymen and they don’t have the expertise.  I am dealing with antique-ish wallpaper (from Secondhand Rose) so really need someone who knows what they’re doing.  Any referrals would be greatly appreciated.  (Already searched the Brownstoner site and didn’t find any recommendations.)   Thanks.

We recently had wallpaper hung in our small powder room by Alan Rada of DecoRada, and they did an excellent job. Alan and his assistant Anthony were prompt, pleasant, professional and meticulous and got the job done in a timely manner (we’re in our 2nd year of home renovations and have dealt with MANY contractors…it has shocked us how difficult it has been to find anyone who has all those qualities). They even patched a small hole in our wall beside the drain pipe for free, and added nice touches like wrap the light switch plates. Very highly recommended. Alan Rada   917-755-3915   www.decorada.com A quick word about Dow Kowalczyk from Dow + Company. We got his info off this site and had him come in for an estimate as well. Dow was also very nice and professional, and great to deal with. If we had the money to hire him I’m sure he would’ve done a great job. In the end we went with Alan b/c his price was lower by almost half (though neither were cheap), and Dow itemized many extra charges for having to remove the wall-mounted sink, having someone patch that hole in the wall, and he also wouldn’t paper a small section of the wall in the corner of the room b/c of the tricky location of the heating pipe. He took great pains to explain the difficulty of the work due to the small size of our room. We assumed that Alan wouldn’t be able to do it either, so didn’t ask about it, but when I came home at the end of the day, I found that he had simply just done it. Not sure how he got behind that pipe, but he did, w/o making any fuss.  I think his can-do and understated attitude spoke a lot about his experience. This might be abit more detailed than you asked for, but we initially had a hard time deciding between Alan and Dow (w/ such different estimates… and we had been burned by going with the lower bid in the past), so I thought I would share our experience. (Also if it helps any, Alan hung wallpaper in the White House in 2010…can’t really beat that credential)

We recently had some walls skimcoated, painted and wallpapered by C&M Interior Services. They were meticulous, both with the work itself as well as prep–everything was wrapped extensively and they vacuumed often. I wish everyone we’ve dealt with was as professional across the board. It was a really positive experience (when does that happen?) and the walls look wonderful. 718-426-2838.

You said “antique-ish.”   If you are using wallpaper that is NOT precut and prepasted, you need a REAL pro.

Handymen are not capable of hanging wallpaper, it is very difficult skilled labor. You need to hire a contractor who does that type of work. Go to a wallpaper store like janovic plaza and ask for referrals.
