lost black cat in Bed Stuy or if stray - want to adopt her?

I’ve made friends with this cat on Hancock st near Malcolm X – her well-kept state, friendliness & approachability make me wonder if she really is a stray or someone’s lost pet. She doesn’t have any of the scragginess you’d associate with a stray. I’d say I started seeing her around a month ago. She is smaller than average (6-7 pounds), black with some white spots/white paws. If she is a stray, I wonder if any of you would want to adopt her? I don’t know how old she is, but seems young. I know people like to adopt small kittens, but the advantage of adopting an older cat such as this one is that her outgoing, friendly personality is already apparent, unlike kittens who are ALL friendly and playful at their young age, but you don’t know what you will get when they grow up. I would love to keep her myself, but our one cat has already created enough allergy problems for my boyfriend.

Sean Casey is another good shelter that is very hands on with finding the right owner for a stray, and they also maintain a good network among rescuers to get the word out for lost strays (who might hafve owners looking for them) very cute kitty.  My parents are dealing with a few cats having adopted their yard (they can’t let them in – they have a couple of cats of their own and they are a little too temperamental towards any new animals)

All of my pet cats have been strays that I just picked up.  They usually walked into my house or were friendly.  As odd as this may sound, in my experience, a friendly cat is usually a cat that either was dumped and/or needs to see a vet!  Do not allow the cat into your home until you check it for fleas.  YOU DO NOT WANT FLEAS IN YOUR HOUSE.  Fleas will bite you and they are extremely difficult to get rid of.  Trust me on this one – I have experienced it!  You could also do TNR (Trap, Neuter, Release) her, get her a shelter, feed her and let her live outside.  However, it’s always better for a cat to live indoors – unless THEY want to live outdoors and that is another story LOL!  Get the cat examined by the vet.  The previous poster, Redrobin, gave you the name of an animal rescue organization you can use.  You could also contact “Neighborhood Cats”.  They also help animals.

You’re nice to be looking out for the little one. We already adopted a stray we found in our backyard, also on Hancock. Brooklyn Animal Action (http://www.brooklynanimalaction.org/) helped us before we decided to adopt her (some of the folks involved with BAA conveniently live in Bed-Stuy). Get in touch with them if you want to keep her, or if you don’t, as they have a relationship with a vet and get get her spade/neutered at a discounted price. They might also be able to find a home for her if you don’t keep her. It is critical to get strays fixed so the feral cat population doesn’t continue to grow.

I think she might belong to the people who bought my house at 311 Stuyvesant.  Or, it could be a bodega cat.

Awwww. Cute kitty. There are a ton of stray cats on Hancock, particularly between Howard and Saratoga. Maybe she’s from there? We had a cat adopt our stoop for a few days recently. We fed it and after a few days it disaperard. I think it was someone’s cat that got locked out.
