Drinking water has started to taste funny

Why don’t you opt for bottled drinking water? Its far better than the tap water. My family has been consuming spring water by Samantha Springs for more than 5 years. Its really safe to cnsume and tastes good too.

Recently our water has started to taste funny intermittently. I haven’t yet isolated the problem yet, but the fact that our tenants are tasting it too would seem to indicate it might be coming into the building that way. Would I contact the DEP about this? If so, does anyone have experience with this (i.e. things I should expect)?

Is your water discolored?  When you live in an area where there are a lot of rehabs, you will frequently get dirty water.  I personally don’t recommend drinking it.  I lived in a really bad area for this once upon a time.  The people who are licensed to replace lines in residential areas don’t exactly engender confidence in that regard.   I smell high levels of chlorine from time to time (this summer, actually), until the UV treatment facility comes online they must jack up the disinfecting.  Your concerns may fall on deaf ears becasue anyone seen complaining about NYC spring water may be considered an ungrateful whiner.     I recommend Brita at worst, bottled water better for the forseeable future in Bed Stuy, which will attract much construction.

Give 311 a call. They will send you a box to UPS the water back and have it tested. Safest way to know. In the meantime for safety, drink bottled water.
