concrete mix for stone foundation

I have been looking into this now for a while now and have been getting conflicting opinions. some of the mortar from our foundation as turned to sand  and needs to be cleaned and repointed. does anyone know what type of cement should be used to do this. Is there a ready mix that home depot has that can work. I have been reading that a type N cement would do it but that you have to add lyme to it so it isn’t harder that the stone. Can anyone clear this up for me . Thanks

I used type N to spot repoint, no lime added. if it’s below grade and a load bearing wall, that should be fine. Just don’t use M or S, those are the higher-strength ones that could damage old masonry.
