Need Mason to build brick & slate steps to parlor floor entrance-recs needed.

Hi Brownstoners

I live in a wood frame house and the wood steps I have just leak, leak, leak from the top level platform.  Also, the steps are super slippery despite adding sand into the paint mix, and the paint does peel, the wood rots or breaks in pieces. 

So I would like to have new steps built using brick and slate, new iron railings.

Can anyone recommend a mason?  Are there problems with these types of stairs leaking too.  Any recommendation for a type of stone to use that won’t be slippery, for the treads?

I used Millad at CTG Construction (718-669-8305) and he did really solid work. He was reasonably priced too. Happy to share before and after pics. I completely redid a lower facade and also repaired some brick work around a back window. I hired him based on some recommendations I found through this forum. I’ll probably use them again when I get to my next project.

I have a wood frame house with 20 to 50 year old brick and concrete steps, and yes they leak and leak and leak. We’ve had them patched and they still leak.

Call J Mos @ Brownstone Authority.  I would recommend bluestone slab for the stairs instead of slate, as it will last longer and is not slippery. 

FWIW, it’s pretty obvious  “jamesbedsty” IS CTG Construction.  Not saying he doesn’t do good work, but don’t call a GC to do a masonry job.

you could call Shahab Udin –  646-523-7155…..he has done work for me for years…..including new front stoop (I used iron steps and masonry walls),  sidewalk, built garden wall in back, repointing, etc.

Hi Adam

May I ask you how much it cost – did they repair existing stairs or build from the ground up?  Are the stairs water proof, or do you get leaking?  Are the slabs slippery in the winter?
