Scaffolding to protect garden from ivy removal
http://cdn.brownstoner.com/4fd095c07c615-.jpg
The 4-story high ivy on the adjacent wall in my backyard is going to be removed soon. I need to protect my garden while this is going on and think that the solution is a temporary scaffold over the garden. The part of the garden that needs protection is about 25’x10′. I’m thinking that a temporary scaffold would work but not sure where to rent one or if that is the best solution. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Try Big Sasco on 3rd Ave by Lowes. They have the normal 5′ scaffolding, but we usually rent the narrow 30″, which is lighter and easier to carry through the house. You’ll need your own 2X10’s, rentals usually only come with uprights and cross braces.

I assume they’ll rappel over the roof and start at the top. I plan on putting down boards or stones for them to step on in the garden and hopefully they’ll use them. What do you mean by a trap? I have no idea how this will all happen but think that there are tons, literally, of ivy on this wall and not sure greenhouse plastic will stand up to the weight. I would much prefer constructing something myself then renting scaffolding.

It’s not clear from the site, but scaffolding seems like might be awkward since it’s 5×7 (I think). You might be better off constructing a frame out of 2x and cover it with a trap or greenhouse plastic. Also, how are they going to get at the wall without stepping into your garden?

I wonder if netting, intended to keep birds away, might be a simpler solution?

Any tool rental place should have scaffolding for you. Google “tool rental” in your area.
