NY State Publishing Requirement for LLC - Help

You know when you think politicians are reformers……. its BS like this that proves they arent and are on the take. Yeh Bloomberg 32 ounce sodas are more important than reforming state/city laws like this. (same goes for the pet projects of Giuliani / Dinkins / Koch etc etc). I dont know why we put up with this.

Hi,
Has anyone who has purchased a property through an LLC had good experience (or bad) with dealing with NY State’s publishing-notice-in-a-newspaper requirement? If you have done it on your own, is it a brutal process? Have you dealt with a third-party company to do it (which I might add we have received tons of mail correspondence about, all in varying degrees of cost, which puzzles me even further – why $50 with one company vs $900 with another???). Any advice would be greatly appreciated! FF

Congratulations on stumbling into yet another one of NYS antiquated and expensive laws. The Crains and Law Journal Subsidy Act.  As you’ve found out you are required to publish a notification on the formation of your LLC. The company that is offering to do it for $50 is not including the cost of the ads that you are forced to run in a legitimate “local” periodical. The ads are expensive and totally worthless. Agter they’;ve run you need to certify/prove to NYS that the ads were actually run by including a copy of the ad from the periodical as I recall.  Someone else may have incorporated more recently and researched the competing legitimate offers from third parties or done the process themselves as I haven’t done it in several years.
