Looking for hardscaping in the backyard

Hi Brownstoners! With Spring finally upon us, we are looking to fix up our neglected backyard. Looking for recommendations for somebody to create raised planter beds (brick or stone) along the back wall and sides of the garden, create a blue stone patio area and fix a small retaining wall in the front part of the space. Not really interested in garden design per se at this particular moment because the budget is tight! Any suggestions woudl be helpful – Thanks

Try Shamin Ahamed. Shamin does great work for a good price. He can sometimes seem a little too laid back but he’ll get the job done. In our backyard, he has replaced fencing, laid a bluestone patio, created a concrete pad for a garden shed, installed belgian block edging, replaced a failing lawn with gravel, repainted deck railings etc. Tell him Roz referred you.

It sounds like you know what you basically need so the next thing is to decide on stone, block, bricks etc. Go out to Glenwood Masonry on Glenwood Rd. Google them to get the exact location. They are major suppliers of masonry brick etc to contractors. They have samples paving all the sidewalks all around their block and samples of small walls etc in their yard so you can see how it looks and weathers etc. Then call any of the masonry guys that you see doing facade work etc. They all do garden structure work, it is all masonry. That will be the cheapest way to get it done if you have the time to go look at stone etc yourself. Buy it directly your self after the contractor that you hire has told you how much you need to buy. Just don’t confuse yourself, there is so much more choice than what Home Depot has.
