We’re putting in a small full bathroom (5′ 6″ X 5′ 8″) on the first floor of our house. We’re installing a neo-angle shower in the top left corner, with the sink/vanity on the top wall and the toilet on the LH wall and entrance on the bottom wall. It’s going to be tight to fit everything in (will post a separate thing asking for rec on toilets and vanities etc) But my question here is: would you install a glass enclosure or shower curtain rod? Of course shower curtain is cheaper, which is a major factor, but I actually kind of like the idea of a shower curtain vs the glass. I like that it isn’t “fixed”, so it wouldn’t block off 2/3 of the shower like a glass enclosure would. I also like that I wouldn’t have to worry about the door getting in the way of anything. This is the shower curtain rod: http://www.signaturehardware.com/bathroom/shower-curtain-rods/neo-angle-shower-rod-with-ceiling-support-18-1-2-x-26-x-18-1-2.html But do you think there will be a problem with water damaging the vanity, which will likely be 4-5″ away from the shower? Is there something that could be done to eliminate the chances of water damage to the vanity? Any other pros / cons to glass enclosure vs shower curtain?

Why not a wet room configuration with single glass wall barrier between shower area and sink, and a single curtain. You can tailor the size and shape of the shower area, save partially on glass and installation, while keeping vanity dry.

Whichever choice you make, I would suggest using a pedestal sink rather than a vanity, in such a small bathroom. I would actually use sink brackets to secure the sink to the wall instead of the pedestal, so you save a lot of floor space, actual and visual. I bought the brackets at Olde Good Things, the sink at Home Depot, the faucet at Renovation H/W, and it looks like a million bucks. I can email you a picture and give specific model #s if you are interested. Good luck.

Glass on the side where vanity is – that’s a fantastic idea. Ahh, I love brownstoner. Thanks slopefarm! RG: I love the look of pedestal sinks, but what are you doing for storage in the bathroom?

Robern medicine cabinets. I like the 4″ deep (which you can mount flush with the wall), almost any size and configuration, and it’s enough for everyday use. I don’t like wood vanities in small bathrooms, because eventually water/humidity damages the wood. If you decide to go with Slopefarm’s idea of a wet room, then you need neither curtain nor glass to protect a pedestal sink from shower sprays…
