How do I know if my fixture(s) are in need of resurfacing?

If the porcelain is in good condition or merely stained I would’t resurface them. If there are spots with rusty metal exposed — not just the overflow drain — you might consider it because otherwise these spots will eventually rust through and the fixture will have to be replaced. But resurfacing is just paint and doesn’t hold up well.

It depends on what kind of fixture we are talking about. A fixture in a bar might get plastered every night, but if there is a brawl, he might get shellacked too.
