How do I clean this “sticky” dust off my ceiling fan?

Buy Zep Degreaser. Make sure you wear a respirator mask. spray it on. Let it sit and the muck will slip off with a sponge. What you have is a build-up of grease and dust but easily remedied.

I moved into an apartment and the fan is close to the kitchen. There’s dust on the blades of the fan but if I spray it and try to wipe it down, the dirt just starts to roll and the rag starts to get stuck as I wipe. This happens even if I let the Lysol sit for a few second before wiping. I’m not sure if it’s because of grease while cooking or what but how do I get it off?

Fantastic is what my mom would have used on kitchen type grease from cooking. We seem to get by with windex. I wonder if ammonia would work. I know fantastic has ammonia in it. It might be the ammonia.

Definitely ammonia. I cleaned the ceiling fan after a tenant we called burger boy moved out. Windex worked. Lots of scrubbing, but it worked.

Unscrew the blades & wash in your sink. It is easier than trying to do it on a ladder with the ceiling fan moving & not being able to put too much pressure etc on it in mid-air.
Or buy a new fan.

if its really bad and fantastic or ammonia don’t work, one of those concentrated citrus products might work; and if it is a really bad decade old baked grime there is always goo gone., but i would try the other mentioned stuff first.

Baking soda is also alkaline like borax.

You could gently but firmly scrape the blades with a plastic putty knife. I find it removes the gunk better than a rag or sponge.
