Feedback on Brooklyn Kitchen Gallery?

I would second Ikea, particularly over Lowe’s. Kraftmaid semi-custom from Lowes = 2-3x price of Ikea cabinets, and the Kraftmaid vanities from lowe’s have not held up as well as the Ikea kitchen we put in the rental. Take the savings and put them into a nice countertop. Plus no wait — you just take the cabs home from Ikea — the Kraftmaid vanities we ordered came in wrong several times. 6 months from order until they were finally in.

We are getting ready for the first phase of renovations of a brownstone/townhouse in WT that we are buying and the kitchen is up first. Our contractor recommended Brooklyn Kitchen Gallery. Has anyone used them? We need to stick to a pretty tight budget but also want a decent quality kitchen that will last.

Have you looked at Ikea or thought about D.I.Y? Ikea has a huge range of custom options and super helpful staff. I complete many D.I.Y projects by going to Lowes, talking with the employees, and doing the work myself.

Yes, we are looking at Ikea (and hadn’t thought about Lowe’s yet so will ck that out too) but wanted to also look at some other options for a comparison. I imgagine there is a tradeoff between labor time to set up the Ikea cabinets and the cost of other products.  There is other work the contractor is doing besides the kitchen that we can’t take on due to needing to move plumbing and some walls and immediate time needs.  If he isn’t up for installing an Ikea kitchen if it turns out significantly more cost effective then we will have his crew do all the other work.  We have a long list of DIY projects that we will be doing in conjunction and after the contactor finishes up.

we got estimate from ikea installer for cabinets, appliances, installation and demolition it was approx $7,000\. yep, $7,000\. then we found tenants who wanted to pay higher rent, and move in immediately without the upgraded kitchen, so we didn’t get the work done.
