Bathroom Sink Iron/Metal Legs

http://cdn.brownstoner.com/4df21d594b52c-

I’d like to convert some original marble dressing room vanity sinks for use in my bathrooms. These marble pieces sat on wooden frames that were built into the wall. What I’d like to do is remove these and set them on iron/metal legs – much like in the photo. Does anyone have a lead on these type sink legs, either used or from a company that produces them? Thanks, BH

Tacking on to this old thread to note that Bedlam Brass was bought out a couple years back and the new guy no longer carries the material mentioned by jsa. Found out through a phone call.

Hey all, Thanks, everybody, for the answers and information. As an alternative, I went to Home Depot this weekend and put together a number of 3/4″ galvanized plumbing pipes, tees, flanges, and nipples. In the end I managed to construct a full set of vanity console legs for the entire sink, which actually perfectly fit the marble sink I have – right there in the plumbing aisle! A customer thought I was putting together a display! When I finished constructing the leg set looked very old school, like maybe something you’d see in…well…..an old school. Hahhaha….. Anyhow, I should have taken a picture, but, all told, I think the final product will cost about $80-90, or so. When the bathroom is tiled, I’ll see how one looks in place with the marble on top.

I agree with adam_dahill that Palmer is the best way to go if you want to go custom and lower the cost – i’m using them right now on a job where my client wanted a Carrara top with console legs. I’ve used Urban Archaeology’s version as well (which they can do custom) but it’s quite expensive.

I agree that you could probably make one, and might need to in order to get the right size. You might also be able to order the legs only from any of the many companies that make these sorts of sinks (including restoration hardware, waterworks, etc.) They also can be found here http://www.bathsfromthepast.com/products/Console-Sink-Legs.html

Do a search online for salvage. Many places that sell antique sinks and toilets have sets of legs to sell. They are not too expensive — a couple hundred maybe. You have to be clever with your Google terms — something like 1890s enamel wall-hung sink, antique or 1930s farmhouse sink, antique toilet, fuller faucet, ball faucet, etc.

I’ve seen some great sinks made by mounting your marble tops on old treadle sewing machine bases. They are ornate cast iron, and fit the period. They are often available on Ebay and in salvage places. I found one at a Salvation Army store, but that was years ago before reclaiming stuff was popular.

You could try this place – http://www.bathsfromthepast.com/products/Console-Sink-Legs.html Also you could probably make your own with stock components from any place that sells brass tubing and railing.

Wow. Those are some nice legs! 🙂 Thanks, Adam! They are pretty pricey per set, though – I googled “Palmer sink legs” and clicked “shopping” and the ones that appeared were from $875 to a little over $2K a set. I will certainly use the Palmers for inspiration, but are there other options out there, from locations where I might find re-purposed legs, ideas on making these myself, salvage yards that might have them, other options? Thanks again, BH
