Property insurance

FWIW I’ve had my insurance through the Brownstone Agency for many years. I renewed my policy for another three years last month. The cost for three years was less than the (presumably) annual charge brooklyn72 mentioned, but, of course, you can’t compare insurance costs for one and four-family houses.

We are about to renew our property insurance and was wondering if someone could help me figure out if our premium is reasonable. The house is a brownstone, 4-family, and sprinkler system in place. Our premium is $5,800; is this reasonable. Thank you

If this is for a three year policy with the Brownstone Agency, then the answer is no. Rates have gone up substantially over the past three years since you last renewed your policy. If this a one year policy with another agency, then yes. Call the Brownstone Agency: 212-962-5620

Depending on the value of your home being coverd by the insurance company, its in the ballpark of reasonable.

if it’s Chubb, then that sounds about right. Brownstone is cheaper, but I’ve heard you get what you pay for. On this forum people who have had to make claims have nothing but nice things to say about Chubb. If you’re just getting insurance because you have to, you can probably do better on price. We pay $2200/year through Brownstone Agency for 3-family 4-story, no sprinklers.

Don’t compare chubb to “Brownstone Agency”. One is a top-of-the-market insurer who writes insurance policies, the other is a local insurance broker who peddles whatever insurance company it is they are peddling. Interesting that people don’t even know through whom their insurance is written.
