Insulation for cockloft?

It does make a tremendous difference immediately.  We did the same project, but rented the blower machine from home depot and went in through skylights.  It probably cost about $600 total, with renting the machine, buying the bales of cellulose, and renting the truck to carry it all.

I’m looking for someone to put insulation in the cockloft of my townhouse (i.e. between the ceiling of the top floor and the roof. On occasion Ive seen a truck which advertises some kind of green insulation which they blow in, but I can’t remember the name. Anyone out there know of such a service? Also, is there any way to do this without punching holes in the ceiling? We’ve only got access to the area near the roof hatch, the ceiling is all antique tin and I’d hate to have to try and peel it back. Thanks!

Federal Conservation did mine a few years ago…$2.00 psf plus 4200 each for 2 roof vents.  They do not go through the ceiling but through the roof.  Very efficient to work with and keep you informed as to when they will be able to come.

Federal Conservation did my roof over the summer. I am still trying to figure out how those guys cut such small holes in the roof and then got in there to spray the insulation around. But I saw them do it, then install the roof vents over the holes. They were really professional and I would recommend Joey (516 903-7401) to anyone. They said the best test was to look on the roof after a snowfall — your roof will still have snow while will the neighbors have already melted (assuming they aren’t insulated). That is because the insulation blocks the heat from escaping, keeping the roof surface colder for longer.

did it make a difference in the temp then? Our top floor is so cold. And I would love to do this, but only if it will make a difference
