Replacing radiators
Would like to replace two bulky radiators with slenderized versions that are only 4.5 inches in depth as new windows are making apt unbearably hot. Cost for replacements about $1200\. Ballpark figures for labor?

delepp, You have bigger issues if your apt. got to 92\. I suggest you mention that to your landlord. As I mentioned, all the parts of your heating system are dependent on each other in order for the system as a whole to work properly.

Thanks, in an apt bldg. with a one pipe system. Some apts are cold, we are hot. Got to 92 degrees one night when we mistakenly left radiator on.

I agree with Gennady and want to add something. If you have a steam system the size of your radiators is directly connected to the size of your boiler. Changing the radiators will have an effect on how your boiler operates and therefore your fuel economy. Second, make sure you aren’t buying hydronic (hot water) radiators for a steam system or one pipe steam rads for a hydronic system although that is a harder mistake to make.

You should make sure that new radiators will not be undersized. Also, you can consider thermostatic radiator valves to control room temperature. It will be more economical solution and will let you keep room at desired temperature.
