Oilheat to gas conversion

I want to convert from oilheat to gas or at least consider it, mainly to save money. I get mixed messages as to whether converting is a money saver – does anybody know, preferably from their own experience? And if anyone has done this and can recommend someone to do the job, that would be appreciated. Thank you!

check with the gas company as their are different “classes” of service, ie, cooking vs heat.

the plumbing and heating guys might have something to say about this and reasons not to do it, but over a decade ago, i bought a used conversion burner and was going to mount it to my boiler to switch from oil to gas. i was going to do this myself and then something big happen on st marks place and second ave and that resulted in criminal convictions against the people involved and i decided playing with gas, even in my own house, was a bad idea.

there are ways to go about this that may or may not include a new boiler. talk to a heating specialist about options. there are three guys on here who should be able to answer this for you.

and anyone looking to buy a used conversion burner, i gave mine to a guy who is supposed to be selling it for me. he might still have it.

I’m surprised that nobody has answered this. Maybe most people who wanted to switch from oil to gas did so long ago. I’d guess that it’s worth doing IF your furnace or boiler is ready to be replaced anyway.
