Hot water takes a while

I googled a bit and found that if I add a hot water re-circulation pump it would help deliver hot water much quicker. I also know tankless water system deliver instant hot water as well. What have others done here to get hot water out quickly. When I turn on the faucet or shower when it’s been idle for a small amount of time(30-60 minutes) the water is cool and takes about a minute to start getting warm/hot. I am wasting a lot of water in that time.
