Ceiling fan for 7 ft. ceiling
I have 7 ft ceilings in two bedrooms in my house. The rooms never cool enough during the summer. I was thinking a simple solution would be ceiling fans to keep the air moving but the low ceiling gives me pause.
Has anyone installed ceiling fans in a room with low ceilings? Any recommendations for the brand/style?

How about hanging a smaller fan in one or two corners? I swear by Vornado fans. They come in a variety of sizes and when you have low ceiling heights you can mount them in corners and they are powerful enough to cool a room. Depending on how you mount it you may even be able to oscillate the fan. A ceiling fan at only a 7 foot height will open you up to some issues if a person is 6 foot or taller or a person with long hair passes under it.

The link says “Make sure you have at least 7 feet clear from floor to fan blade.”

Probably not risky for you. Anyone taller would have to remember to not raise their arms above their heads, but I think the only potential danger would be to the fan. Wooden ceiling fan blades are unlikely to seriously injure a person.

Yes, it could be a safe option. But I am actually looking for a ceiling fan. I found an article where they recommend “Prominence Hugger Ceiling Fan.” It takes only 6″ from ceiling to blades. I am 5.5ft. Would it be risky for me?

Have box fan with side panels meant to mount in window that cool 2 floors of my brownstone house that I occupy. When outside temperature is cool at night is I set fan to exhaust to outside and close all windows except bedroom window. Cool outside air is drawn through bedroom window materially cooling the room. Check out Air King fan and Google box fans.

The Vornado floor fans are intended to be aimed up. They do a great job of circulating the air a room and IMO are as effective as ceiling fans, albeit slightly more noisy.

This sounds risky. I would do what Bob suggests or get a window fan that plugs into an outlet.

A fan like this in a corner might be safer:
Vornado 783 Full-Size Whole Room Air Circulator Fan with Adjustable Height
I use these in my front parlor and dining room, where I want ceiling light fixtures more attractive than fans. They’re very effective.

Just make certain that nobody who’s well over six feet tall enters the room.

They do make a low profile ceiling fan. They are sleek and modern looking and hug the ceiling. I cannot recall the name and am not sure if they are sold in the big box stores. A customer of mine got a few at Lee’s lighting on 57th st a good while back.
