Conestoga, Scherrs etc -- custom factory made cabinetry

sorry Judith…yes now i rememebr we emailed. Regarding pullouts etc…everyone seems to use the same ‘rev-a’shelf’ addons which have been great…but scherrs did a few custom little things for me…the best being my sheet pan/ cutting board rack above the fridge. As for the paint i’ve found it to be quite hard…it is clear coated as well…but i guess with any painted cab there’ll be little dings over time…i have touch up paint 🙂 http://designsmitten.blogspot.com/2011/04/t-h-e-b-i-g-u-n-p-c-k.html

I’ve been investigating affordable ways to put custom doors & drawer fronts on Ikea cabinets. I want a plain flat-front wood door & Ikea’s look cheesy to me. But I don’t have the budget for a high-cost cabinetmaker. Has anyone used any of these companies that make such doors? Did you do so through a local kitchen place? hi! I actually looked into doing the same thing since i wanted other options for door other than what ikea offered. I looked into scherr’s who will make any door to fit any cabinet…you can just tell them which ikea box and they’ll make the door with proper hinge holes etc.
Eventually i had them price out doing all my cabinets withe their ready to assempble cabinet boxes as well and it was an amazing price…about 7K for my whole kitchen and it was fully custom. My architect sent over plans and then went through a bunch or shop drawings with them to get exactly what we needed (since our space was weird) and made a bunch odds and extras as well. They were the nicest people to deal with and the cabs just as easy to put together as well! I blogged it all …but maybe you’ve seen it?

Hi, You & I corresponded. I had Mentor Frangu over. He seems great. ONe thing he said re the Scherr’s cabs: the paint isn’t v. hard. He thinks they’re going to mar easily. What do you think? Also, do you cabs have inside stuff — draws, pullouts from corners etc? (doesn’t look like you have any corners). That’s a nice thing about Ikea, but I’d like it to be all custom. How many cabs do you have? I think I’ll have 16. Judith

Have you checked out SemiHandMade? Their core business is creating doors for Ikea cabinets. I haven’t used them, so I can’t provide a personal referral (nor a ballpark on cost), but their work looks great from the website. Definitely worth checking out, although I suspect their premium finishes may get pricey.

I have custom made ply cabinets with Conestoga cherry doors.  I used a local manufacturer who I would not recommend and I think he is out of business anyway.  Conestoga is very nice quality.  If you’re going with cherry, get the upgrade (select I think they might call it). My dw and fridge is also paneled.  I paid for select but got standard (one of the many reasons I would not recommend the guy).  I have them about 7 years now with no problem.  My dw and fridge are also Conestoga paneled.

conestoga is a pretty good company, I am an architect. I just finished an apartment renovation with conestoga doors and they came out very nice.
