Window company for replacement
We are planning a brick-to-brick replacement of some windows, with Kolbe or Marvin all wood. Any recommendations on one or the other? We are concerned with stopping the draftiness, ease of tilt for cleaning, and looks. Also, any experience with Windows We Are? Their price was significantly lower than Adler Windows in Manhattan.

I used WindowFix and was happy with them. Take a look at Marvin’s Ultrex/wood line which is wood inside but clad outside in their Fiberglass material. The look is nice and the durability is (supposedly) excellent. We did double-hung windows in front and casement windows in the rear of the house. The casement windows are FAR more energy efficient, but they don’t have the classic double-hung look, which is why we did not use them in the front. I saw somewhere (possibly an “Insider” post on Brownstoner) that there is a casement window product that mimics the look of double-hung but has the efficiency of a casement (the top panel is fixed and the bottom panel opens out, casement-style).
