White stains on brownstone
Our brownstone was resurfaced two years ago. Over this winter, white splotchy stains appeared in several places on the side of the stoop and the first story of the facade. Any guess about what’s causing the stains? Thoughts on how to get rid of them?

efflorescence could be a totally normal sign of your resurfaced brownstone continuing to cure, or it could be an indication that water is getting behind the new surface. 2 years later i would be concerned about the latter. i would recommend contacting the contractor who did the resurfacing.

It’s called efflorescence and is caused when water evaporates from masonry leaving behind salt deposits. It can be removed. Consult the interwebs.
