Where to buy hardwood floors

Rental apartment you don’t want a fancy floor. 3-4 dollars is good in my opinion. I’d go with the cheapest floor that looks good enough it won’t impact your rent, and a plainsawn oak floor will do the job. Board lengths will affect how it looks, so just be aware of that, but even shorter boards will be fine. Frankly at 900 sqft let’s say you get from 3 dollars to 2 dollars. That would be an unheard of price for decent material, but it only saves you 900 buck, so if you can get it done in the 3-4 range I think that’s pretty good and I’d focus on optimizing the labor cost for installation.

Anyone have tips of where to buy hardwood floors in Brooklyn? I’ve checked out Liqwoodations near the Bed Stuy Home Depot, as well as NY Hardwood Floors and Lumber Liquidators in Gowanus… all have mixed reviews online. Would love to hear anyone’s experience with these or other places.

Tell us about what kind of floor you’re looking to buy. I’ve learned a lot recently about hardwood floor recently. You should be able to get an awesome floor for 5 bucks a sqft. You might get cheaper. Depending on quantity you’re looking at probably 300-800 to ship it in from a domestic mill direct(depending on quantity), so you needed be limited to local availability. If you’re going oak, take a look at quartersawn or rift and quarter. It’s a little more expensive, but not really that much more, and it looks great and is much more dimensionally stable(fewer seasonal gaps will form). FWIW I had an offer today for new quarter and rift white oak flooring at 5 bucks a sqft.

So the floor is for a rental apartment, so I don’t want to spend a ton of money. I’ve seen oak hardwood floors for between $3-4 at the places I mentioned, the floors seemed pretty good to my untrained eye… Does that sound reasonable?

Not sure it would be worth it to pay $5 plus shipping for a better quality floor. The square footage I’m buying is for the whole apartment, so it’s like 900 sq feet.
