Wheelchair properties in NYC? Alternatives?

> I’m sorry to hear you are having trouble with that. For almost 30 years New York city has required all new apartments and those substantially altered to be handicapped adaptable. Those apartments should only need to have grab bars installed and perhaps a sink lowered and cabinet removed to allow them to accommodate a wheelchair user. The door widths and turning spaces should already work for you. I’m not sure who would pay the cost of those modifications, but there might be advocate organizations like Disability Rights Advocates that could provide some advice and assistance. If you work with a local real estate agent they should be able to find you an adaptable apartment – there are thousands built each year – although the newer ones are likely to be expensive.
Great thanks for your reply! I will ask my local DRA about some tips on such renting. I understand that these apartments will be much more expensive, but no it’s more likely just about finding suitable one. I will rather spend more.

Hi! I’m disabled from 7 years old and renting for such people like me is a tough challenge. I’ve found wheelchair amenity on one rental website f.e.: https://rentberry.com/apartments/s/new-york-ny/wheelchair. Among 5,000+ properties, I’ve found only 23 in New York. Please, guys, share some contacts or websites (better) to find an apartment that is wheelchair accessible and have modifications inside. Thank you!

Stick to new buildings. At least units on first floor will be wheelchair accessible
