What's going on with permits now?

We have an electrical permit open. Job was done before lockdown sans hanging light fixtures. Our electrician is ready to do this. All his family was mildly sick and now is recovered, thanks god, with antibodies to proof that. He is technically ready to complete the job (and, obviously, money coming will help). Job is in isolation, nobody is present on the site.
The problem is that nobody knows when and if inspection could be scheduled in the nearest future, say, at the beginning of June.
Do you know anything about when Con Ed and DOB will start to function?

We’d rather wait and do one man on site in a meantime to do work that does not require permits: closets building, installing mouldings, painting.
May be we tile the porch, if this is going to be extended till June 13. We can wait, we have jobs, but handyman could use some income now, esp. that he is not relying on public transportation. We do not live in this house, he will be alone.

Correct. A loophole here though is everything is approved as Essential if you know how to work it. They say they will do an audit once the city is caught up and settled but I know a lot of contractors rolling the dice that never happens.

Cuomo extended the state of emergency today to June 13. The DOB has stated that the shutdown would continue as long as the state of emergency is in place. My understanding is that the DOB is not doing on-site inspections for non-essential sites during the shutdown.

For the work we do, DOB calls all the shots. National Grid can only listen to DOB, so I follow the daily updates from DOB. The last one we had was very unclear on specifics.

One worker on site is fine. If your electrician can work by himself, let him.

I don’t think construction will open up on the 15th. Deblasio said today.. he doesn’t see any changes before the end of the month, and according to Cuomo’s chart, the city has a long way to go.

DOB has been sending regular updates. That being said they did extend all Essential Permits through June; my assumption is that they will open up sites on the 15th of May but new permits and inspections will stay on hold outside of the essentials.
