Water in basement

@bklynreno sorry for delay… i think i ended up going through the con ed construction department (‭718-802-5299‬) but i think they may need you to file a case by just going through regular con-ed customer service. when you explain the problem they’ll know what to do (its pretty common); the key is just to work with the team that shows up and tell them to use an extra long nozzle to inject the foam as far back as possible. make sure they don’t just stuff oakum into the conduit and call it a day.

I have water coming into my utility room from around where the electric pipe comes in. Does anyone have any ideas of what could be the cause or who I might call to help? ConEd came and filled the pipe with some foam/concrete type thing but that didn’t seem to help.

Thanks

It’s Con Ed’s problem. Have them come back again.

is it coming in through the pipe or around it? i had this exact issue and despite con ed plugging both ends of the conduit (street and in my box) water kept seeping into the basement wall and making its way into our basement. ultimately i concluded the conduit probably had holes (these things are pretty rusted up) somewhere in the run from the manhole to our foundation wall and rainwater/groundwater was still getting in. i ended up getting con ed to come and inject an expanding foam into the conduit as far back as the foundation wall (which meant they needed an extra long nozzle to get the foam about 2 feet into the conduit so the pipe was sealed around the cables all throughout the foundation wall.) if you have access to the conduit pipe you can just clean out any sealer that’s in there (usually okum or cement) and then inject the expanding foam yourself. the product that con ed used to use is called “american polywater FST-250”. i’m attaching a diagram i used to show con-ed. @oliver_nyc How did you get Con Ed to come and inject an expanding foam into the conduit as far back as the foundation wall? Who did you work with? I have the same issue. Thanks in advance!
