unlimited budget

Chemo
The company I work at is fixed cost for nearly everything, but once you get a permit involved and inspections it is extremely difficult to get a cookie cutter cost since every home is different. Literally the smallest thing like a broken meter bar can be the difference between 6k and 16K in cost.
I am not saying that once you see a job, you cannot give a ton of options to cover everything but preset options for Installations is not possible. We have tried forever but there are too many variables; the suburbs are much easier than the city.

I have the rare opportunity to work on a “green” heating and cooling system with an unlimited budget… three chillers (water and glycol) for cooling and low level heating, two HE boilers for heating and domestic heating at cooler temperatures. The most beautiful residential job I have ever been involved in… Not my work, since i am there as a control tech [IMG_7794-2](//muut.com/u/brownstoner/s1/:brownstoner:p2hG:img_77942.jpg.jpg)

It is a four stage control…the chillers work for cooling at a specified temp, … turn off when not needed, work as heating in mild chilly temperatures and switch to heating by the pair of navien boilers when the temperature is lower.. the heating /cooling is transmitted by six air handlers… a really elegant system

the beauty of the chiltrix chillers is that they are water/glycol based, way more environmentally friendly than mitsubishi r 410a units

it switches to heating when the temperature drops …the drawback is that it is a complex control system…that is why i was called in

That really is awesome and some beautiful work.
I do get weary of these type of projects though because with a complex system come complex repairs if anything were to fail. I do not necessarily refer only to cost when I say this, but also to Lead Time. It is hard for some people to grasp that certain parts take a long time to come in yet they like to shoot the messenger.

For anyone with an unlimited budget πŸ˜‰ look into adsorption chillers. They use process heat or solar heat heat to cool. While they are often used in commercial settings, there is one company producing a residential model: https://fahrenheit.cool/en/products/
I think they are around 25k, and have no moving parts and no compressor, and they are maintenance free. They require a water or glycol system.

When we talk about the “greenest solution” we also need to talk about the environmental impact of the fabrication and maintenance of the system. This is especially true of a lot of high end residential construction projects.

@janedrew I think they will ship it. Definitely off the beaten path. But with either unlimited budget or untamed pioneer spirit it should be no problem.
