Hello! I have something making noise in the ceiling between ground and second floor. The exterminator said it may be a squirrel and I need to call wildlife removal people. Has anyone every used animal trapping companies and if so, what’s teh standard fee? I was quoted nearly $800 by a company that was recommended. Is this about right? Seems very expensive to me. Thanks!

Do you have any exhaust vents where an animal like a squirrel could enter? If it’s trapped, I can’t think of what a trapper would do besides busting holes in your ceiling. Could it be mice?

you won’t hear mice. i once lived in a house that had a rat in the wall. i could hear it a little, sometimes. if you are hearing this all the time, it might be a squirrel. they can get in through a broken soffit as well.

i had a customer some years back come to me with a damage caused by squirrels. this is what he told me and i do not know if it is true: “if you have to get your insurance company involved (to have them removed or repair damage), you tell them you have raccoons. do not tell them you have squirrels. in so far as the insurance company is concerned, squirrels are not wildlife and raccoons are and they will only cover costs associated with wildlife”. that is what i was told and i do not know if it is true.

I doubt it’s really trapped, if it got in; it can get out the same way. More likely it found a home for the winter. I’d try to find the hole it got in from, wait until it leaves to scavenge for nuts; plug up the hole.

Sorry, but I never thought the picture our Service Expert took of a cat who made an old Fresh Air Direct Vent his home would find it’s relevance but this is the closest I will ever get!
